![]() Braxton County Memorial Hospital Assistant Administrator-Operations, Sharon Gaston, RN, BSN, MPH, CIC, was awarded the APIC-WV Shining Star Award during a recent meeting of the West Virginia Chapter of the Association of Professionals in Infection Control, (APIC-WV). Barbara Jones of Cabell Huntington Hospital had nominated Sharon for the award noting, “Sharon Gaston has been in nursing management since 1975; but Sharon’s true love is serving the West Virginia chapter of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC-WV). Sharon has been active in infection control since 1982. Sharon has held various offices in our APIC-WV chapter, including treasurer for the past several years. Sharon works tirelessly for the chapter. She provides a place for the chapter to meet. The conference / meeting room is always ready with equipment that may be needed for presentations. She always makes sure we have snacks and lunch. She consistently shares her knowledge and expertise with others and is always willing to help. She routinely has given inservices at chapter meetings. She believes in bettering herself and helping others better themselves. After graduating from Akron City Hospital School of Nursing in 1972, she went on to complete a BSN from WVU in 1984 and then on to complete a Masters in Public Health in 2000. She is certified in infection control. Sharon is a true example and mentor of infection control.
In addition to her responsibilities with APIC-WV not to mention those associated with serving Braxton County Memorial Hospital as Assistant Administrator-Operations, Sharon oversees the Dietary and Housekeeping Departments as well as the Employee Activities Committee.
Sharon and her husband, Gary, will celebrate 27 years of marriage on November 20th. She is a ‘Buckeye’ who moved to WV in October 1980 before the opening of BCMH. Sharon says, “I treasure my church (the Chapel of Prayer), and the Victory Mountain Baptist Camp. I also enjoy serving as treasurer of APIC and the WV Society for Healthcare Risk Managers (WVSHRM).
