| BCMH Announces New Certified
Activities Director |
![]() On April 1, 2009, Laura Boggs joined the BCMH family as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Not long after, her supervisor, Julia Rose, RN, Med Surg Nurse Manager, realized that Laura possesses a true gift for relating to our Swing Bed patients. Julia states, “She talks to them, finds out what their interests are; and they appreciate her.” Often following an illness or surgery, patients no longer require acute care, although a skilled need might still exist such as Physical Therapy. In such cases, patients are frequently transferred to Swing Bed status, which can involve an extended hospital stay. Thus, the need for an Activities Director is evident. “Laura is really good at one-on-one activities. She cares about her patients and wants their health to improve,” Julia comments. Laura goes above and beyond her duties to see that the needs of her patients are met. “The day my father was being discharged after a month-long hospital stay at CAMC and BCMH, Laura helped me trim his hair,” remembers Martha Nottingham, Administrative Assistant. “He was still quite weak and to save time, I trimmed one side while Laura trimmed the other.” On December 18th, Laura completed a 180-hour course and passed the exam necessary for her to become a Certified Activities Director. Congratulations, Laura, we are proud of you and appreciate the outstanding care you provide our patients at Braxton County Memorial Hospital.
